Cara Whyte
Cara is an author/singer/songwriter living on the South Coast of NSW, Australia.
Cara started writing children’s songs watching her two boys grow up and became inspired to turn some of her songs into books with the love of reading to her children.
She has spent most of her career life as an Occupational Therapist in the United States and Australia. Her passion for helping others and writing music have made these sing-along books a dream come true!
How it started
Cara’s first singalong book “The Ocean, Sea and Me” originated while spending time in and surrounded by the ocean and raising her two children with husband Simon.
“I have always felt connected to the ocean and love the feelings you get when you immerse yourself in that environment.”
Cara was born in Florida but continued her ocean loving journey to California, Hawaii and now Australia.
Ann NguYen, illustrator
Cara teamed up with Ann to illustrate her books, heralding all the way from Sweden and now based in Sydney.
Her artwork is tech-inspired and contemporary, yet timeless and traditional; a notion that becomes apparent throughout her meticulous, multi-faceted design process. For Ann, the illustration journey always begins with a pen and paper, and finishes on the computer; where she breathes life into her ideas.
How it’s going
Cara continues to write music and enjoys playing for children alongside her OT work on the South Coast of NSW.

Flossy (7yrs) loves singing, dancing and reading along to both Cara and Ann books, which she was gifted by her grandfather. They have become treasured picture books to share and the beautiful illustrations have made them lovely coffee table books too! Reading along with the song has helped to boost Flossy’s confidence as a reader and helped her practice reading with fluency. We love how the characters in the pictures are faceless as you can imagine yourself and your family and friends in the scenes. Thank you Cara and Ann!

It ‘s wonderful. We just love it. I made a little film clip of Eli and I listening to it, he just loved the chorus and couldn’t stop smiling! Gregg (dad) and Eli have been listening every day and Gregg even gets teary listening to the lyrics.
We have all (the whole family!) found ourselves spontaneously singing the chorus at random moments…very catchy!
